1 Dead in New Jersey Auto Accident

A 47-year-old woman died in a head-on collision with another vehicle the night of Jan. 14, according to local authorities. The woman ‘s vehicle collided with an SUV in Pittsgrove Township. The other driver involved in the New Jersey auto accident, a 28-year-old man, reportedly survived but was injured. Police are still determining what happened, and no charges have been filed.

According to the report, it appears the woman was traveling east on Porchtown Road when the accident occurred. Just before 11 p.m. for reasons unknown, her vehicle struck a westbound SUV. The force of the impact caused her death.

The man was taken to a local hospital after suffering injuries described as “moderate.” He is listed as being in stable condition as of this report. Police have not ruled out driver error on the part of either individual involved.

If New Jersey police are able to trace the cause of the auto accident to negligence, recklessness or other sources of driver error, the surviving driver may face criminal charges. Even if no criminal charges are filed, grounds may exist for either a personal injury or a wrongful death claim through the state’s civil justice system, depending on the driver or drivers deemed responsible for the crash. Such suits do not require criminal charges or convictions for a civil court to award damages to injured parties or the families of the deceased. Nevertheless, it will be necessary to establish by relevant evidence that the party or parties sued were negligent in a manner that was the proximate cause of the accident and injuries that resulted.
