Woman Faces DUI Charge Following Single-Vehicle Accident
An underage woman has been arrested after allegedly crashing her vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, according to local law enforcement. Police in Berkeley Township, New Jersey, conducted the arrest of the 20-year-old woman. She now faces DUI charges among several other traffic-related offenses.
What Reportedly Happened?
The information provided in the report is incomplete, but it appears that, at around 1:45 a.m. the morning of Nov. 1, police responded to reports of an accident on Hickory Lane and Route 9. When they arrived, they found the 20-year-old driver had struck a utility pole with enough force to sever the pole from its base. The pole fell onto Buckley Lane and also caused a power surge that disabled several traffic lights.
The road was closed for several hours as a result of the damage. The driver was injured in the crash, but the type and severity of her injuries were not reported. She was arrested on site and charged with reckless and careless driving, failure to maintain a lane, failure to produce insurance and DUI. The report did not mention what led officers to charge her with DUI, as there was no mention of roadside, breath or blood testing.
Help and Support Is Available when Facing These Charges
A DUI charge is enough for a New Jersey resident to lose her license, and possibly her freedom as well. This is why her defense attorney will carefully review the details of her case, particularly the events of the investigation and her subsequent arrest. If police did not follow due process or in any way infringed on the woman’s rights during this process, the charges could be reduced or the case thrown out entirely.
